Jin’s Comments: This is probably one of the more personal and special projects of mine because it is my first ever all-Cantonese album. At first, the idea of doing this album started out as a joke. While I was in Hong Kong for a show late in 2006, a group of friends and I were riding on the subway and someone suggested that I do an album rhyming all in Cantonese. I jokingly said, “Sure.” Later on that evening at my show, I decided to kick a short verse in Cantonese that I had just put together while messing around on the subway. The crowd went so crazy that as soon as I got back to the US, I flew straight to LA to work on the album. Three days after arriving on the west coast, ABC was complete.

Jin’s Comments: This album was originally called A Couple Songs and Some Freestyles. Eventually it got changed, because the release followed shortly after my second victory at the 50K FightKlub Battle at the Mixshow Power Summit. Thus the title, 100 Grand Jin. This is pretty much your standard mixtape/album. Basically, just a collection of old and new songs we threw together.

Jin’s Comments: Some people refer to this as my “MySpace Album,” because when it was first released, it was only available for purchase via my MySpace profile. After coming off of the gritty and raw vibes of the last album, I decided to lighten it up a bit and go back to a more radio-friendly sound. I Promise certainly showcases more of my growth as a songwriter as time passed. The beats and concepts on this album definitely have a more commercial appeal.

Jin’s Comments: Sometime after the release of TRIH, I had some personal issues I was dealing with. This lead to a lot of frustration in regards to my career, the music industry and just life in general. I took all of these pent-up emotions and released a song called “I Quit.” The response was so overwhelming that it took on a life of its own. After all the pandemonium died down, I went back to the studio and came out with this album. I wanted to do a project that fully showcased my passion for the art of rhyming. Entirely produced by up-and-coming producer, Golden Child, it’s organic, boom-bap Hip Hop at it’s finest.

Jin’s Comments: This was my debut album. After several date changes, it was finally released on October 19th. To this date, it’s sold over 200,000 copies worldwide and I am extremely proud of that. Looking back, I do think that the album lacked a certain sense of direction, and you can tell I had yet to find my identity. Nonetheless, I had the opportunity to work with Twista, Styles P., Just Blaze, Kanye West, Wyclef and other great artists/producers on this project. I learned so much from the overall experience, and if I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing.
