I’m a snacker. It’s my curse. I love eating, but as everyone knows, snacking all the time isn’t very healthy. So over the years I’ve had to find ways to indulge without completely killing my body.
Even though the effects of my over snacking weren’t visible on the outside, I knew there was no way that eating candy and chips all the time would be good for my body in the future.
Here are the snacks that I eat nowadays that I (hope) are a better option than grabbing a cookie.
Pretzel Chips and Hummus
This is such a simple snack to go for. I always make sure that I have a nice big bag of pretzel chips around and hummus in the fridge.
When it’s snack time, or even lunch, I’ll limit myself to about 15-20 pretzel chips and dip them in delicious hummus.
It doesn’t sound like much, but hummus is actually extremely filling, so this is the sort of snack that leaves me feeling satisfied when after I’ve eaten it all.
Cherry Tomatoes and Goat Cheese
There was a time when if you’d have told me I’d enjoy goat cheese, I would have looked at you like you were out of your mind. Turns out I love it. This seems to be a regular theme in my life. Thinking I don’t like a thing and then trying the thing and liking the thing.
What I do is divide 4 or so large cherry tomatoes into halves, and add a tablespoon of goat cheese on to each piece. You can sprinkle parsley or basil on top too.
Strawberry and Banana Smoothie
Sometimes I want my snack in drink form. This is the best type of snack that I can think of when I’m really craving Starbucks, and I know my body and my wallet won’t thank me if I decide to indulge. I blend together a couple of ice cubes, strawberries, an entire banana, and about a half a cup of milk.
This usually makes enough for a full large cup of shake or 2 smaller shakes. I but any extra in the freezer to be re-blended later, in case I don’t want all of it at once. If I have any at home, I’ll sometimes add a tablespoon or two of chocolate protein powder. So yummy.
WHY I LOVE TARTE
I adore makeup and one of my favorite makeup brands is Tarte. That’s because Tarte’s products are 100% cruelty free. I haven’t tried every single product by Tarte, of course, but own enough that I absolutely have some favorite products that I could never live without.
My first favorites are the powder pigments. These are excellent lip tints that I was completely skeptical about at first glance. They come in a twisty pencil shape, and they’re shimmer-free and moisturizing. I own four of these, that’s how great they are.
These are slimmer in size than the usual chubby shape that lip color pencils come in. Application is very precise, and they’re generally easier to store away. The pigmentation of each is very nice and you can even layer up the colors, which is great in my opinion.
Sometimes I like my shades softer, and sometimes I want everyone to be blasted away by the color of my lips. It’s nice to have options.
Next up are the incredible Amazonian clay blushes. I used to hate blush so much. I received one of these from a friend as a gift, and my first thought was, “well, what am I going to do with this?” Well, I was incorrect.
These amazing blushes turned me not only into a blush wearer, but a blush lover as well. These blushes can be worn sheerly, or they can be built up a bit. I loved the option of being able to wear my blush sheer. It was completely essential for learning how to apply blush the correct way.
The formula is long wearing, and the blush will pretty much last the entire day on my face, especially if I wear it with a formula. These also blend very nicely into the skin, another important thing for those bad with blush.
The Lights Camera, Lashes Mascara from Tarte is hands down one of the best mascaras I have ever used in my entire life. I prefer non-waterproof mascara because I have never had any problems with it coming off as the day goes on, and it’s a lot easier to take off at the end of the day.
I really hate rubbing my eyes for hours trying to get every bit of product out, only to find more left behind when I wake up in the morning. Fortunately, that is not a problem that I ever have with this particular product.
I know it’s not that important, but I love the packaging for this mascara. It’s very pretty, Only a couple of swipes will build and volumize the lashes. It does a very nice job of holding lash curls as well.
The first time I used it, I was honestly so shocked at how it made me look like I was wearing false eyelashes. They looked amazing. This is now my go to mascara. I’m a bit of a mascara freak, so I buy a lot of different brands, but I always find myself reaching for this one when I want to look my best.
