When I say “you”, I’m referring to my blog.. as if it was a person. Technically, I guess it is a person. Better yet, a collective of people. Either way, pardon my neglect. To say it’s been hectic in Hong Kong would be an understatement. A few weeks ago, (June 10th to be exact) marked the exact 2 years of my arriving in Hong Kong. As some of you know, I’ve been here ever since. It’s funny  reading some of the different stories I come across online.  Ranging from “Jin moved to Hong Kong for his career and now he’s a millionaire” to “Jin flopped in America and now he’s back in his motherland selling bootleg Jordans”, I must say it’s neither of the two extremes. It’d be safe to say the actual reality lies somewhere in between those two versions.

One day, I’ll get around to telling the entire story of what brought me to Hong Kong in the first place. In the meantime, I can only describe what it’s been like since I’ve been here in two words: life changing. Two more words: eye opening. Okay.. three more words: truly a blessing.

Back to my neglect..

It just occurred to me how dope this website is and how much time and effort the team puts into it. Thanks to my CADV/PlanC/CMG family.

I think this whole time I was caught up in the mentality of “man, where on earth can I find the time to write and blog? I’m smashed with a massive workload already!” When in reality, I should be using this platform as a source to release and unwind. More importantly, a great way for those of you who are interested to see what is going on in my world.

In closing, to make up for my neglect, here’s the first two tracks I wrote and recorded to (no particular order) from the final Hiphop Census Mixtape selections. I wish I could find the time to write and record all of them in one shot, but that’s just not realistic. Do check them out and leave some feedback.

Thank you for your patience.

Verses sound good, but your levels are a little too loud. Is this how it’s gonna sound on the mixtape or are these just the first draft/pre-mastered versions?

    yo wat’s good Jin?

Been a huge fan ever since Freestyle Friday (bought The Rest is History the first day it came out and copped your Properganda album too!) and I can honestly say you’ve been a huge inspiration. To say that I was excited to win your competition is a huge understatement.

Either way I just wanted to say thank you for this opportunity and I hope God continues to bless you and use you for His purpose.

what was the recording process did they send you recordings? did you just alter the you tube? did you go to them?, just wondering the sound great, kinda on the slow side, but i guess that goes with the vibe of the mixtape, hope fully theres a fun song or a hot song here or there but if not thats cool. thanks for doing this project! it is amazing! please dont let it be the last i know its alot of work but it getting the community together and getting talented people to do something they might not otherwise do. maybe pick another theme and do something like this again and again. that would be amazing!

Jin, I hope you read this, because there is much i want to say. To sum it all up: I love you, you inspire me, and your music touches my heart. You are more then just a chinese man rapping, you are a man singing about shit that needs to be heard. And that’s worthy of praise. I hope there are others listening to your tracks and thinking “what can I do too?”

    take care (:

Nice verses! Yes, levels were a bit loud, but I figured these were raw vocals (sounded like it was processed with eq, compression, reverb, etc.). Anyways, do not feel the need to rush. Good luck with everything!

  18. Spitz B said on June 26th, 2010 at 7:51 pm:

correction.. I meant “sounded like it WASN’T processed)

    anyway add oil ah:)

  21. iulesc said on June 28th, 2010 at 12:06 am:

im feelin “Drop Change” but the vocals and sound quality needs improvement because i can hear/distinugish from the two, so you might want to mix and level them out evenly. i also do think it depends on how the artist (Jin) wants the engineer to mix it. Sounded like compression was performed in the making, and whomever that produce the beat should always take avantage of a mixed down wave file to record the vocal over the top instead of an mp3 file…Btw, both verses are two thumbs up.
