Once upon a time, before any and every song lyric was available at the click of a Google search.. I would be extra amped whenever I purchased a cd/cassette tape that had the lyrics included in the packaging. Then again.. That’s also when lyrics were still somewhat of a top priority.

<3 beautiful story.
I once read from somewhere that RAP actually stands for

“Rhythm and Poetry”
Seeing this lyric post you posted up, I think
this is so true…
Good morning “Poet”!
And thanks for typing all these up for us
lyrics should be top priority! without it, the song is meaningless. that’s why your music is so great. keep up the good work!!
respect!!
Good story teller~
WOW. This is really one of the only times I can say someone held their own on an Eminem beat… Incredible.
legend.
Greetings from Cali,
God has blessed U wit an incredible gift and dat iz 2 communicate thru rhyming straight 2 tha hearts of man. Dat joint U wrote was powerful and heartfelt. I feel like here in tha states we have lost tha respect fo substance and we have become so shallow dat our minds has been under musical hypnosis wut a lot of these artists say and represent in their music. It seems like a bad car salesman who’s tryin’ to sell U sumttin’ U can’t afford but promise U it will fullfill yo life. It’s similar 2 today’s music industry. Tha type of artists dey have in tha parking lot externally look attractive 2 tha flesh but if U start drivin’ their music U start findin’ out all dat external veener will leave U empty all tha false statement, do U, get money, be a pimp, keep it gangsta, thiz iz cool thiz iz not, but who are dey??? Definetly not my daddy but so many millions of people have taken their false believes and fairy tales as facts and true, sadly??? I would luv if we can stay in touch, I would luv 2 do a phone interview wit U if U up to. I am a born again christian dat do music dat represents change and we go out and share thru music our believes. Please stop by my myspace and leave a comment dat would mean a lot 2 me. Aight, enough of me talkin’ may God continue 2 bless U and give U creative and innovative idea’s 2 reach thiz generation fo tha King. God Bless (www.myspace.com/dayoungbozz)
@ Bozz – thank you for the insight.. your analogy of the musicians/car salesman is pretty interesting.. and hits alot of points! at the end of the day, we’re all on our own journeys.. it truly is a blessing that I can utilize my God given talent to share my journey with everyone.
thank you. that sentiment of when albums came with lyrics to the songs…man, i miss that. so true about lyrics not being a priority. the partial lyrics for I Promise from your I Promise album was a huge gem.
thanks for posting that up =)
Lyrics are top priority!
Why don’t we say we love the beat instend of the whole song if lyrics are not important at all =P
I’m sitting in a room alone in a psych ward right now. Just watched your video and it made me feel better. Depression sucks. I used to freestyle too but lost the drive and happiness. Your words really picked me up today. Thanks Jin. I can live another day.
Loving the song, Its true what you say, people dont realy seem to botherd aboutwhat they are actually saying/rapping about these days. Its like they just wanna tell you what they think you wanna hear, which most of the times ends up being a load of gibberish. I remeber those days when i use to excited about opening a cd and reading the lyrics but but then againg a rememberd getting excited about opening a cd PERIOD!!! I dont just go out and buy any old trash, if imma buy a cd its gotta be from an artist that i belive has talent and possibly somethink good to say….(Yes i did buy your CD) lol. Anyways lets all hope that these rappers start actualy taking some time and think about what message they are trying to put out there to the audience, i mean there aint nothink wrong with dropping a simple tune with a good beat but DAMN when i get the album i expect to hear a little more. X
i think the part of this that touched me the most is how you wanted to take care of your parents deep down and i can’t imagine how hard of a struggle it must have been to keep doing what you wanted to do (alone, without family support) – for the family…
anyway speaking of bad lyrics… not sure if you ever saw him before – but he cracks me up:

hate to say, but ur eng rap is really much better than ur canto one~ I’m saying “better” means that ur eng rap means much deeper, I can totally feel ya! Canto one more like “just for fun” rap.
my suggestion: not that ur personal story is not beautiful, but the name of this song might sound better as “1st step” (or something like that). hope to hear few more words about being asian rapper in dat U.S. (I’m sure u’ve been through many struggles), and what brought u back to ur home city HK. That would complete ur “1st step” story. “step 2″ –> Hong Kong!!
love ya
I feel like a funny man lol
I think Heavenly Father is amazing…
Also also…BIG LOVE to the Holy Spirit…
you take care, Jin,
KM
They can makes banging beats but without the meat I won’t be fulfilled.
Thank you Jin. Its about time someone uses fame for something positive.
God Bless you brother.
yeah it’s funny we go chasing after the things we want our whole lives but realise that’s not the thing that makes us happy,it’s the people we’ve shared the journey with that do. Cos what’s the point in having it all without the people we love?
It’s times like these that we realise, the best things in life are free.
P.S.
your lyrics and you in general, are so inspirational.
always have been, always will be!
PPS i need some JINspiration for my interview tomorrow, tweet me something inspirational!!lol my twitter name is on my site
One word: Profound!
Keep the hope alive my brother!
Word, I used to be and still am the same way with the CDs I bought: always first to check the insert/booklet to see if it had the lyrics. You’d be surprised how many artists still keep that tradition alive.
The Internet and downloading have definitely made me more selective as to what CDs by which artists I am willing to buy. Even artists I’ve been loyal to have to now earn my $10-15, because that money does not come easy for me! Always go to retail stores too! On New Music Tuesdays if something dope drops! Chances are it’s on sale and 1/3 off!
Flashy bangin’ beats and kush instrumentals are dope, but the lyricism IS still a priority believe me! I don’t think you can have one without the other to make a song that’s considered a CLASSIC, timeless in its texture ‘n all.
I’ll do my best to push the boundaries with my writing for your Hip Hop Census Mixtape, belee that!
Peace & Love
M. Fli
That was cool you got my respect
