This nifty booklet is one of the most inspiring birthday gifts ever. It was given to me by a young lady named Claudia. It’s filled with all kind of stuff from my career over the years: song lyrics, show pictures, articles, etc.

How can I not love it? She even made a “Jin Themed Crossword Puzzle”.

As I browse thru it I’m reminded of just how lucky I am. Almost a decade in the business now (106 and park was in 2001 yikes!), my career has been filled with its fair share of ups and downs. At one point, it seemed like I was set to be the biggest thing since slice bread. Those that followed my story know what happened. Those that don’t, no fret. What I want to emphasize is that thru this whole time, there were a select group of individuals that stuck by me regardless of the how grim the given circumstances may have been. The known term would be: die hard fans. In my eyes, they are much more than that.

These are the people that support my decisions not only as an artist but also as young a man (not that young anymore lol).

These are the people that if they were to bump into me now, it would be with the same excitement as if I just signed my first record deal.

These are the people that know regardless of any career pitfalls or missteps, deep down inside, I’m just a normal fella who loves Hiphop with all my heart and soul.

To these people I say, “Thank you”. You are appreciated.

Coincidentally, I just happened to type “perfect fan” into a youtube search and came across this awesome BSB song. Yes, BSB.

Mom, you are the perfect fan indeed.

Remember the first time you heard about “Jin”?

I remember seein Jin on 106 back in the day, and it seems both like forever ago & like yesterday! (YouTube helps!) Regardless, he’s still the greatest thing since sliced bread [after Jesus^__^] because he stays true to his passions and who he is. He’s not someone who’s gonna sell out, cop-out, or forget what Hiphop is about. He’s followin a narrow path in multiple ways, and that’s why he’s always gonna be groundbreakin, pavin the way and makin a real difference. Jin’s always got love for his fans and for his haters, and I’ve got nothin but respect for him!!

Hi Jin. It always struck me how people have enabled our dreams. For some people, it is their decision at a key moment that give us the break we’ve been longing for. For others, it is their one casual sentence that provoke our thoughts and lead to some great breakthroughs within ourselves. Just as I recall how other people have enabled my dream, I am reminded how I can enable others’ dreams as well. My power may be little, but I still believe I can empower others, even if it is as little as a late night chat with a beer.

  15. jin said on March 1st, 2010 at 11:56 am:

@ Henrietta – True indeed. You know never know how what you say or do may have an affect on someone.

Jin Au-yeung. Yes, you’re an inspiration because of all the things you’ve managed to achieve, from 106 n park to RR to TVB (I am so proud of you!) but more importantly, you’re an inspiration cos after everything you HAVE acheived, you’ve remained the same guy at heart(a little more wiser maybe ;) ),you’re real. You stay true to your guns, say what you feel and do what you think is best which is what I have ALWAYS admired about you. I don’t know about anybody else but everytime I’m feeling demotivated, a special somebody in the name of Jin Au-yeung keeps me going. So thank YOU for being alive and doing what you do, you were made for big things and you’re always gonna be making a difference! And for the record whatever happens, I believe in you. just know that we’re down for you, always!!xoxo

mang, i remember i first heard ya’ jin in that “Girls, girls, girls, girls, Asian girls galore” ahah. had me crackin’ and then i heard ya’ with Learn Chinese, i was a little suspect. to be honest, i wasn’t a fan after that, honestly thought you was a gimmick ’til i heard “cold outside” and you said, “i’m not a gangsta, not a thug, I never said i was, so why the fuck y’all hatin’ on me for??” and i was mind-blown. changed my whole perspective, peeped the Rest Is History, instant classic. Learn Chinese has even grown on me and then The Emcee’s Proper?ganda sealed the deal. i knew you was a real dude with true passion for hip-hop and it always helped that you was ill with the rhymes

ps. “he said words connect, words connect about six times”

Too bad I found out about you last year when you wasnt in the US anymore.I hope you come back and represent us again.I even told the teacher to play “Learn Chinese” in our chinese class lol.

  23. Sophanda said on March 1st, 2010 at 9:50 pm:

Jin, keep doing your thing! Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from doing something that you love. In the future, you never know thousands of fans would make a booklet like that. I would make one for you [: Just keep making music. P.S that song is beautiful!

I remember back in the day, I was in 10th grade and my Indian friend told me about you, I brushed it off. (This was when you were in BET) Then in 11th grade my Vietnamese friend told me about you and I started to think and look you up, at that point you had a website and I think you were about to come out with your album. But point is, ever since then Ive been a big fan of yours. One of the biggest reasons is for you representing us minorities (Chinese people) and speaking out the truth. Dont get me wrong, I love your freestyle battles and love everyone of your CD that has came out.

I just gotta have one request though, you need to come out with an American album or maybe mix it up with Chinese. Its been long waited…

I guess I have another request, maybe you should do some shows in the US, that way dedicated fans can come watch you perform and show some support.

    Furthermore, thanks for reading this.

    Peace,

    Stephen Ngo

Hey Jin, I sometimes think that HK is too small 4 a talented man like u. Ppl in HK only see u as a funny dude, they don’t truly know how “good” u are. But then when I think back, may be it is the right place for you. HK needs someone like you to show us what “hip hop” is, it’s more than beats and lyrics, it’s the attitude and lifestyle! Like the society is so shocked about “After 80′s”, they forgot that the young generation knows how to “think”! HK ppl needs to WAKE UP!! The value of life does not equal to the money you earn! I’m so glad that I moved back to HK, coz we have ppl like Jin in here!! Keep it up~ Jin, show HK ppl what hip hop is~ ^^

back in the day i had a friend who was an asian rapper too… and he almost got a record contract but in the end it didn’t work out and he told me because “they signed another asian rapper who lives in Queens too”… that’s my story of how I got to know / hear of you… and when I heard your music I knew why they didn’t pick my friend :P (haaa!) it’s the honesty, humility and talent that draws people in… plus I love how much you’ve grown over the years as an artist and as a person…
